When a paper jam occurs in the internal paper feed path, the error message “Open the front cover and remove the paper.” is displayed. The temperature inside the printer may be high. Before removing the paper around the fuser unit, wait until the temperature of the cover in the fuser unit and the paper conveying unit cool.
Step 1. Pull the front cover lever and carefully open the front cover with both hands.
Step 2. Carefully pull out the jammed paper.
Step 3. If a paper jam occurs in the upper part of the fuser unit, pull the jammed paper upward.
Step 4. If you cannot see the jammed paper, pull out the tab on the fuser unit to open the cover, and then check for jammed paper.
Step 5. If you find a paper jam in the output tray, open the front cover and remove the paper.
Step 6. Using both hands, gently and carefully shut the front cover.
When closing the front cover, push the upper part of the front cover firmly. After closing the lid, check whether the error has been cleared.
Approach 2: Rectify paper jams that happen in any of the trays.
Based on the location of the tray where the paper jam occurred, the system will display the corresponding information in the following three messages:
- “Open the indicated components and take out the paper”: Tray 2
- “Uncover the designated parts and extract the paper”: Tray 3
- “Expose the specified components and eliminate the paper”: Tray 4
Paper jams occur in all trays. Follow the same steps to remove jammed paper. The following will take paper tray 2 jammed (at this time the system will display “jam occurred”) as an example to explain the steps to remove jammed paper.
Step 1. Extend the tray until it reaches its limit.
Step 2. Carefully pull out the jammed paper.
Step 3. If no jammed paper is found or cannot be removed, raise the front of the tray and pull the tray out of the printer.
Step 4. Carefully pull out the jammed paper.
Step 5. If a paper jam occurs in multiple trays at the same time, pull all the jammed trays out of the printer and remove the paper.
Step 6. Hold the tray with both hands, slide it along the track of the paper feed unit, and then push it straight in.
